Mini Grunty Witch Crochet Pattern

SUPPLIES: 

• Variety of acrylic yarn in any color (I used Red Heart & Bernat)
•  F/3.75mm crochet hook 
• darning needle for sewing
• scissors
• polyester stuffing (cotton ball may be used for head)
• scrap yarn for facial features (you may also use googly eyes)
• *optional: (glue for googly eyes)

FACIAL FEATURES:

Eyes/Mole: double or triple knot a scrap piece of yarn leaving tails long enough to tie to face

Nose: chain 3, sl st into beginning chain, f/o leaving tails to tie to face

Mouth: use scrap piece of yarn to tie mouth to face

Hair: Using 4 inch pieces of yarn, cut 13 strands for the hair, then tie together at one end using 1 of the hair strands. Trim the short edge (this will go inside the head).

LIMBS:

Arms: ch 8, beginning with 2nd chain from hook, 1sc in each chain across (7), f/o

Legs: ch 10, beginning with 2nd chain from hook, 1 sc in each chain caross (9), f/o

*make 2 of each

HAT:

1) magic circle 6sc (6)
2) 1sc in each st (6)
3) inc (2sc in next st), then 1sc into next st, (repeat 2 more times) (9)
4) 1sc in each st (9)
5) inc, then sc into the next 2 st, (repeat 2 more times) (12)
6-7) 1sc in each st (12)
8) inc (2sc) in each st around (24)
9) inc (2sc in each st around) (48)
sl st in next st and f/o leaving a tail long enough to sew the hat to the head. Weave yarn tail through brim in towards the center of the hat. If you would rather glue your hat to your witch's head, just stuff the yarn tail inside the cone part of the hat.

*Use an accent color yarn to tie a little bow around the base of your hat.

HEAD:

1) magic circle 6sc ~ NOTE: before pulling tightly to close, insert the short end of your knotted hair into the center of the circle. Pull the circle tail so that your magic circle closes around the hair. (6)
2) inc (2sc) in each st around (12)
3-5) 1sc in each st (12)
sl st in next st and f/o leaving a tail long enough to sew the head to the body.

*Before stuffing and sewing the gap closed, add the facial features by tying them onto the face in any way you desire. Be creative! Stuff the head (I use a cotton ball for this step), and close up the gap by weaving the yarn around each of the bottom stitches and pulling it tightly to close. Leave yarn tail so you can use it to sew your witch's head to her body. Do not trim it.

*Sew or glue hat to head. Be careful not to sew through any of the hairs.

BODY:

*begin with arm color (you will be making the upper part of the body first)

1) magic circle 6sc (6)
2) inc (2sc) in each st around (12)
3) inc (2sc in next st), then 1sc into next st, (repeat 5 more times) (18)

4) inc (2 sc in next st), then 1 sc into the next 2 st, (repeat 5 more times) (24)

5-6) 1sc in each st around for 2 rows, *switch to secondary body color (leg color) on last st of 2nd row (24)

*Tie on the arms, hiding tails inside the body, before adding more rows. Use your head as a guide so you know where you would like to place them.

7-9) 1 sc in each st around (using new color) (24)

10) dec (sc 2 st together), 1sc into the next 2 st, (repeat 5 more times) (18)

11) dec (sc 2 st together), 1 sc into next st, (repeat 5 more times) (12)

*Turn right-side-out, tie on legs, and stuff

12) dec (sc 2 st together) in each st (6)
sl st in next st and f/o leaving a tail long enough to close up the gap by weaving the yarn around each of the bottom stitches and pulling it tightly to close.

*Sew head to body.

-          Yarn Used: Red Heart 100% Acrylic Yarn

·         Cherry (optional):

1.      (with smaller hook) mc 6, securing a chain of 6 through the center for stem

2.      Row 1: inc 9

3.      Row 2-3: sc in each st around, sl st

4.      Stuff & f/o by weaving yarn in each st, then pull tight to close

·         Construction & Details:

1.      Ears & Cherry: Sew to head as pictured.

2.      Nose & Mouth: Use thread to embroidery nose and mouth to face.

3.      Eyes: Using a small black bead, sew eyes to head.

4.      Cone Construction: Sew middle scoop to top center of bottom scoop, then sew head scoop to top center of middle scoop. Sew arms (as pictured) to middle scoop, then sew tail to back center of bottom scoop. Sew cone to base of bottom scoop to complete cone construction.

5.      Chocolate Chips/Strawberry Pieces: Cut little pieces of brown and pink felt into jagged square shapes and sew to body using matching thread. One stitch will do.

6.      Your Ice Cream Cone Bunny Doll is now complete!
